Have you received advice in relation to the transfer of pension benefits into a SIPP or QROPS plan?
The FSCS says it is now considering customers’ claims against Nationwide Benefit Consultants Ltd T/A The Pensions Reporter.
The Pension Reporter had links to unregulated firms offering pension reviews such as Pinnacle Brokers, amongst others. Did you receive a cold call? But unsure who they were, if so contact us for a no obligation assessment.
The majority of mis-selling involved the transfer of client’s pensions pension into a Qualifying Recognised Overseas Pension Scheme (“QROPS”) making investments in the Trafalgar Multi Asset Fund.
Trafalgar Multi Asset Fund was mismanaged and entered into liquidation leaving investors with catastrophic financial losses. It forms part of an investigation by the Serious Fraud Office (“SFO”).
The FSCS has joined forces with the FCA and Financial Ombudsman Service to investigate the Telford-based pension transfer adviser with links to a Portuguese expat specialist company.
The Pension Reporter was a trading name of Nationwide Benefit Consultants Ltd who were appointed representatives of Joseph Oliver Mediaçao de Seguros Lda who is regulated and authorised in Portugal and operates across Europe.
The firm particularly focuses on expats looking to retire to Spain or Portugal.
The Pension Reporter (Nationwide Benefit Consultants) firm is no longer registered with the FCA as an Appointed Representative agent of an authorised firm and can no longer carry on regulated activities (since 08/04/2016).
Numerous claims were brought against Joseph Oliver Mediaçao de Seguros Lda as the principal firm of The Pension Reporter, these proved difficult and extremely lengthy.
Joseph Oliver have always argued that the Financial Ombudsman Service could not assess cases against the firm as it was outside their territorial jurisdiction and that only Portuguese authorities could hold them accountable.
However, the Financial Ombudsman found in favour of the client and was awarded compensation.
The decision can be found on the FOS website here.
